Kultura mediów (fotografia, kino, wideo, komputerowa rzeczywistość wirtualna) we wszystkich swoich narzędziach obrazowania potrzebuje śladów realności, odwołania się do naszego podstawowego doświadczenia. W przeciwnym wypadku obrazy z tych sfer tracą swój powab, ich dowolność staje się nijakością. Realna przestrzeń, którą każdy z nas doświadcza we dnie i w nocy, królestwo trzeciego wymiaru może "odbić się" w mediach tylko za pomocą jej odwrotności - iluzji. Ta z kolei od wieków była domeną sztuki i magii. W jaki sposób zmieścić rzeczywistość w obszarach iluzji? Czy jest ona głównym środkiem obrazowania świata?
W swojej czystej postaci trzeci wymiar jest równie nieuchwytny jak teraźniejszość. Dostrzegamy go pośrednio w naszych wewnętrznych oraz otaczających nas obrazach czując jednocześnie, że coś z jego istoty nieustannie nam się wymyka. Problemy te widziane z perspektywy sztuki-fotografii podejmują autorzy zaproszeni do wystawy "Trzeci Wymiar".
Prezentacja składa się z prac pedagogów, studentów i absolwentów dwóch pracowni fotografii (Akademii Sztuk Pięknych w Poznaniu i Instytutu Sztuki Wyższej Szkoły Pedagogicznej w Zielonej Górze) prowadzonych przez Piotra Wołyńskiego. Jest plonem ponad rocznej pracy nad problemem iluzji w fotografii.
Rozpoznanie trzeciego wymiaru związane jest z naszymi zmysłami, naszą umysłowością i kulturą,
w której żyjemy. Dziś zmienia się w obliczu różnych narzędzi obrazowania, którymi się posługujemy. Cechy zmysłów i cechy środków obrazowania wpływają dziś na siebie wzajemnie i wzbogacają się w sposób dotąd nie spotykany. W takich momentach rodzi się potrzeba i szansa wniknięcia w obszary istnienia dotąd przed nami zakryte.

The culture of media (like photography, film, video art or computer-generated virtual reality), no matter what instruments of representation it uses, needs to refer to traces of reality, or basic human experience.
Otherwise the images of those spheres lose their charm, and their "free-for-all" attitude is changed into vagueness. The real space which every one of us experiences day and night, the realm of the third dimension, can only be "reflected" in the media by means of its opposite - illusion. And illusion has been the domain of art and magic for ages. How can we fit reality into the realm of illusion? Is illusion the main means of representing the world?
In its pure form the third dimension is equally elusive as the present moment. We perceive it indirectly in our internal images and in the images of the surrounding world, aware that something of its essence constantly escapes us. These problems, seen from the point of view of photographic art, have been undertaken by the authors invited to take part in the exhibition entitled "The Third Dimension".
The exhibition consists of the works of the teachers, students and graduates of two photographic workshops (at the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań and at the Art Institute of the Higher School of Pedagogy in Zielona Góra), both supervised by Piotr Wołyński. The exhibition is the effect of more than
a year of studies in the problems of illusion in pho-tography.
The recognition of the third dimension is connected with our senses, our state of mind and the culture in which we live. It undergoes changes nowadays due to the use of various instruments of representation. The features of human senses and the instruments of representation influence one another and enrich one another by means unheard of until today. In such moments there arises a need and opportunity to penetrate those territories of existence which have been hidden before us until now.
