Czas sprawia, ze na wszystko co Ciebie otacza spoglądasz z dystansem i z pewną dozą nieufności. Przychodzi Thanatos - uskrzydlony bóg śmierci, brat Hypnosa - boga snu. Symbol granicy, spoza której nie jesteś w stanie wrócić; horyzontu, który przekraczasz tylko raz i nie możesz wiarygodnie opowiedzieć co się za nim kryje. Thanatos w moich fotografiach nie oznacza wyłącznie śmierci, jest przede wszystkim symbolem pożegnania ze światem przeszłości, który odszedł w cień wraz z dawnymi ideałami, celami i wartościami. Przedstawia też symbolicznie cechy charakteru, ułomności, wielkości i pasje ludzi, którzy odeszli, tak jak pomału odchodzi nasz XX wiek. Fotografia zawiesza czas, zamraża perspektywę przestrzeni, tak jak kamień unoszący się w powietrzu wbrew prawom natury, na jednej z moich wcześniejszych fotografii. Fotografie z serii "Thanatos" rodziły się powoli. Bo długo szukałem jak pokazać cos, co jest jedynie symbolem, za pomocą fizycznych materiałów - gipsu, papieru, patyków itp. Często przywoływałem w myślach kamienne groby z klasztoru Saint Roman w Prowansji oraz rzeźby Jutrzenki i Zmierzchu Michała Anioła z nagrobka Lorenza de'Medici. Pokonywałem wielokrotnie dystans miedzy aparatem fotograficznym a obiektem, aby skorygować relacje między przestrzenią a jej iluzją na matówce aparatu. Cały czas pracowałem na granicy rzeczywistości i znaczeń symbolicznych. Kiedy będziesz oglądał te fotografie, może Twoja pamięć przywoła dawne wspomnienia i przeniesie Ciebie do Twojego zapomnianego świata. Moje fotografie są inną formą egzystencji obiektów - choć i te obiekty są nadal obecne w pobliżu.

Time makes you see everything that surrounds you from a distance and with a certain amount of suspicion. Thanatos comes - the winged god of death, the brother of Hypnos - the god of sleep. It is a symbol of a border of no return, of a horizon that you cross only once, not being able to relate truthfully what is hidden on the other side. Thanatos in my photographs does not only represent death, it is most of all a symbol of a farewell to the world of the past, the world that has passed away into the shadows along with old ideals, goals and values. It also symbolically represents traits of character, weaknesses, greatness and passion of the people who have also passed away, together with the 20th century, our century. Photography freezes time, freezes the perspective of space like the stone, hovering in the air against the laws of nature on one of my earlier photographs. The photographs of the "Thanatos" series took a long time to come into being. It took me a long time to figure out how to show something that is only a symbol using physical materials - plaster, paper, wooden sticks etc. I have often returned in my thoughts to the stone tombs of the Saint Roman cloister in Provance and to the sculptures of Aurora and Twilight by Michelangelo on the tomb of Lorenzo de Medici. I have often covered the distance between my camera and the object in order to correct the relations between space and its illusion on the camera's focusing screen. And all the time I have been working on the border of reality and symbolic meanings. When you watch these photographs perhaps you will remember your own old memories and will be carried to your own forgotten world. My photographs are another form of the existence of objects - although these objects remain quite near.
